POST-SUMMER SKIN INTERVENTION

I love to hear the reactions of others as the season transitions from summer to fall. I just love the fall, the colours, the crisp nights, the pumpkin lattes, the warm socks and sweaters, and of course the spirit of gratitude as Thanksgiving approaches.

But most of us love the summer too. And while we mourn our summer’s end, we lost some routine and admittedly, in enjoying it all, potentially got a little lazy about proper self-care. We may be acknowledging that while we enjoyed the warm sunshine, sadly, our skin has not.

Dry, weathered skin is real after a long hot summer! Sun damage can happen all year round, but the summer sun certainly takes a unique toll, and we love it so much, so we expose ourselves more to it.

I often ask myself, “Why can something we all love so much be so bad for us?”

There is no need to beat ourselves up for that. Like other fall resolutions, the key is to start a new way of thinking, focused on gratitude, and nesting into structure and routines. But trust me when I say, just like other aspects of our lives require us to settle in during the fall months, our skin is begging for an intervention.

If your skin has taken a toll throughout the summer heat and sun exposure, you may want to do a nice fall reset. Fall is the time to dive in and kick start a skincare routine that will target that sun damage, the sunspots we see emerging and the dryness we feel. Here’s what you can do to address the summer-loving your skin weathered and set you on a path for fresh and youthful skin routines that your skin will love.

Kickstarting a skin-loving regiment to treat your sun-damaged and dull skin begins with daily skincare practices (upcoming blog mini-series on this), but there are immediate treatments that will get you falling in love with your skin this fall.

TRY A COOL PEEL

I love a cool peel that instantly revitalizes and brightens my skin. Peels make everything work and look better for our skin. Lifting away the dead cells exposes the beautiful smooth skin that is more radiant and, most importantly, more receptive to the medical-grade skincare program you are investing in. My favourite peel is Environ’s Bright Recovery Cool Peel for specifically focusing on sun-damaged skin. The innovative technology in this non-invasive treatment is gentle and effective, designed especially for a complexion that has been affected by excessive sun exposure.

BOOST YOUR SKIN WITH A SKIN BOOSTER

The hydration that comes from a Beauty Booster treatment is another way to revitalize dry skin and minimize the dullness and signs of aging that may be evident after the summer sun exposure. This injectable procedure uses fine needles to target the key problem areas where hydration has been lost, and fine lines or wrinkles are emerging. After just a couple of treatments, the results of firmer and more radiant skin become evident.

After you get your skin intervention addressed, it will welcome a maintenance skincare program that will continue to nourish if for the months to come (and trust me, summer will be back, so starting now is key to youthful skin appearance). Investing in a daily skincare routine with medical-grade products will keep your skin happy and nourished all year.

If you are unsure what intervention your skin needs to get it pampered after the long hot summer, we can help.
